Wordle is an elegantly simple daily word puzzle launched in 2021. Your mission: guess the one five-letter word of the day in up to six tries. Each player gets the same word.
It became a sensation in late 2021 when creator Josh Wardle added an easy-to-share emoji grid, letting players show off their daily scores. This viral sharing sparked a flood of spin-offs across platforms.
In early 2022, The New York Times acquired Wordle (for an undisclosed amount). Fans played it a massive 5.3 billion times in 2024, confirming its status as a premier daily digital puzzle.
How to Play

Enter any five-letter guess.

Green = correct letter, correct spot.

Yellow = letter is in the word, but wrong spot.

Gray = letter isn’t in today’s word (but you can still use it in later guesses).
You have six attempts. Keep in mind that letters can repeat in the answer.
Wordle is free on The New York Times website and apps, plus on Meta Quest devices and Discord. The puzzle resets at midnight (your local time). Log in to your NYT account to track your stats and streaks.
