The imminent launch of the Xiaomi Mi 11, next Monday, reminds us, once again, that history is nothing more than a series of events that tend to repeat themselves from time to time. The term is variable, of course, and the frequency is not a constant, but in the end, if you look at it with sufficient perspective, you see that it can be interpreted almost as if it were a canon, which in the end is nothing more than a succession of a few notes that are constantly repeated, although played by different instruments and with various ornaments that avoid the feeling that we are listening to a loop.
As I write this, I am thinking of the moment (damn moment, in my opinion) when Apple decided that the audio jack was a drag from the past and no longer fit on the iPhone. I don’t think I’ve ever connected it here, but that was one of the reasons why I stuck with my iPhone 6S Plus for so many years. At some point, I was tempted to take the leap, but this limitation of Innovation kept me firm on my “old” smartphone.
This movement was the object of criticism and jokes from other manufacturers who, however, little by little were following the same path.
A few months ago we started talking about how Apple might not include the charger in the iPhone 12 for reasons of economic environmental issues and, when this movement was confirmed, in the official presentation, there were several manufacturers who mocked Apple’s decision, including, and as we told you then, Xiaomi and Samsung. With regard to Samsung, you know, and this morning we were speculating that, with the Xiaomi Mi 11, this company would follow those steps.
Well, it only took a few hours to confirm that, as we suspected, the Xiaomi Mi 11 will arrive without a charger. And in this case, we do not know from a leak, but from a message from the CEO of the company on the Weibo social network, in which he says the following, regarding the already imminent Xiaomi Mi 11:
«Xiaomi Mi 11 is officially presented with completely new packaging, so light and thin. Behind the thinness, we made an important decision: in response to the call of technology and environmental protection, Xiaomi 11 will not include the charger. Today, everyone has many idle chargers, which is a problem for both them and the environment. We are aware that this decision may not be understood and may even lead to complaints. Is there a better solution between industry practice and environmental protection?«.
It must be recognized that, at least, Xiaomi has maintained the tweet in which they stated that their smartphones do include a charger. Well, or maybe it is that the announcement occurred on a Saturday afternoon after Christmas Day, so it is possible that the community manager has not yet had a chance to delete it. It remains to be seen if on Monday, with the official launch of the Xiaomi Mi 11, the tweet remains or has disappeared.
